❔When I register for Connect, it has two listings for Boston University… is this ok?
✔ Yes! Bruce teaches at both institutions. Just use the information from Bruce. (He typically provides this on the day of the first lecture).

❔ I already purchased the book, but now Connect wants me to purchase another copy of the book with Connect. What is going on?
✔ Bruce discusses this in the first lecture. Some students purchase a copy of the book that comes with an access code to Connect. If you did not get an access code you would need to purchase access, which comes with a digital copy of the book. Some students are fine with that, and some prefer to have a paper copy for reference.

❔ Should I buy the book?
✔ According to the syllabus, “The majority of the assigned reading in the text reinforces material you’ll learn in class.” This means that Bruce’s lectures and slides are the authoritative references for the class. That said, many students find the textbook to be helpful. The book is regarded as a classic in the field and is also used in several other Extension School courses. Note that as mentioned during the first lecture, your Connect subscription will include a digital copy of the book. The bottom line is that whether to purchase the book or not is a personal choice.

❔ Do you think I should get the textbook if I want to get an A in the class?
✔ The material you’ll be responsible for in the exams will all be covered by Bruce during lecture. I expect the book will be significantly more helpful in this class than in e2000, but I’m afraid that whether it’s a good purchase for you or not will depend primarily on your personal study style. It’s definitely not necessary to pass the class, but I can’t say whether it’s necessary to get an “A.” A previous edition will likelybe fine. Some of theinfo-box examples will likely be out of date, but you aren’t responsible for those and even the out of date ones can convey helpful insights.
